How might we eliminate some of the confusion and needless complexity from the process of becoming a certified foster parent?
How might we provide easy access to useful information regarding foster care?
How might we create a sense of connection through an app?
This was a group project with Kersten Dewey, Emily Protzner, and Mykenzie Henriksen.
Research
The idea of this project came from a discussion I had with one of my good friends who is a foster parent. I got a ton of helpful background info on the foster care system, and some of the many existing problems with it and the certification process.
As a team we did more background researched and checked government websites in order to understand what we will be able to change and what we cannot.
Survey
69% of people surveyed found the certification process difficult.
67% of people did not have any tools to help them.
65% of people thought an app to help with the certification process would be useful.
We reached out to Facebook foster parent forums.
We received 50 responses from foster parents.
We then used the feedback to influence which features we included and their hierarchy.
Testing
After Brainstorming potential app features we had participants sort them into categories to help us organize them in a sensible way.
Using Figma, we created a wireframe for our app. We then had participants walk through the experience and voice their thoughts and concerns. We then readjusted the wireframe to make the experience more streamlined and helpful.
